3 reasons to look forward to the future!

3 reasons to look forward to the future!

I have found three reasons to be secure and thankful for the coming year and the times ahead!

Worrying about what will happen to me in the future can quickly lead to unnecessary anxiety. I know why I have no need to dread the times ahead!

1. I have God’s Word!

The alarm clock rings, but my eyes refuse to open. It is Monday morning and I wonder how this week will go. My stomach knots up a little at the thought of the upcoming days.

Then I once again remember something that has come to mind so many times before and I open my eyes. Beside me is my Bible. My security for the day and week ahead; for all the weeks for the rest of my life. If I believe in and live according to its words, I have faith and power within, and strength to overcome everything that tears me down and makes me unhappy. Every day. Everything I need of comfort and help, and everything I need to become perfect, I find in this Book.

I think about Jesus who lived by these Words when He was human like I am. It was His food to do God’s will. I must use the opportunity I have today to follow in His footsteps. I read some lines in the Bible and get the courage to start the day with a strong conviction about God’s will.

2. I have a Brother!

The work day is over. I feel tired and nearly have to bite my tongue so that no irritation or impatience comes out of my mouth.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” says Jesus. (Matthew 11:28) Is it as simple as praying on my way home from work? Yes, because He says Himself that He can sympathize with my weaknesses. He has been in the same situation Himself during His life here on earth.

I can follow in His footsteps, He who, “when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten,” (1 Peter 2:23) – and He wants to be my Brother and help me every day, so that I never give in to the evil.

3. I have heaven within me!

It is evening. I reflect on the day that has passed. Everyday life is busy, and I have a lot of things to take care of in the upcoming days. But, I do not need to be anxious.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”! Matthew 6:33. That is the safest thing I can do. God’s kingdom consists of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17). I think about how fortunate I am to have this eternal, unshakable foundation within me when I am in the midst of a stressful day. Heaven can fill my heart and radiate from me every day, and then there is nothing to fear about the future.
