Central New York in mid February doesn’t immediately come to mind as an ideal destination getaway, unless you are fond of snow, ice and freezing temperatures! But if you happened to catch a glimpse inside Victory Conference Center on this occasion, you would see 150 girls, all ranging from young teens to moms in their 30s, gathered together for a very special weekend retreat!
A special emphasis is placed on learning from God’s Word, with practical examples on how to use it in our everyday Christian lives, combined with plenty of opportunity for “chill time” – sports, leisure activities, catching up with old friends, and making new ones.
The speakers at the conference spoke clearly that we can be conformed to the image of Christ as a product of believing God and His Word. When we believe this as a personal possibility, God can do great things in our lives!
Erica Braudrick, who has attended this conference in past years as well, shares why it’s so important for her to be there.
“I get so much help for my own life! I often think of the verse in 1 Peter 5:9: ‘Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhoodThe “brothers” and “sisters” are those who are a part of the church of Christ. (Matthew 23:8; Matthew 12:50; Hebrews 2:10-18)... More in the world.’ We get to come together for these weekends where we can be together with other girls who are in the same fightAlmost all talk of battles and wars when concerning a Christian life refers to the inner battle that arises when a sinful thought tempts you. God’s Spirit and the flesh are at odds. When you have decided to only do God’s will and are being led by the Spirit, a conflict between the flesh and the Spirit arises: there is... More against sinSin is anything that goes against God’s will and His laws. To commit sin is to transgress or disobey these laws. The lust to sin dwells in human nature. In other words, it is contaminated and motivated by the sinful tendencies that dwell in all people as a result of the fall into sin and disobedience in the garden of Eden. This... More that we are in. Where we can be built up in our faith! Isn’t that amazing?”
“When people think about grace, they usually think about the forgiveness of sins; and since we have all sinned, we all need grace.” Sigurd Bratlie opens this booklet about grace with these words. However, he goes on to describe in-depth that the grace that is in Christ Jesus means so much more than forgiveness. It also means truth and help. It teaches us not to sinTo commit sin is to consciously do something that you know goes against God’s will. This can be in word, deed, or even thought. (James 1:14-15)... More, so that we can be completely free to live a life of victory that leads to perfection.
The seniors in BCC lead active, full lives, and are a vital, respected group in the churchMany people use the word to denote the entire body of Christians, and others to describe a certain denomination or group or even the physical building that Christians gather in. The Bible makes it clear that the true church of Christ is made up of all those who deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. (Ephesians 2:19-22; Matthew... More.
