Cast all your care upon God: A practical solution that works

 A promise was given to Jesus' disciples: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33.

It’s also written that our heavenly Father knows what we need. He knows; He isn’t stupid. Doubting is just like declaring that God is blind, stupid and incapable. But our heavenly Father isn’t blind or senile. He pays close attention. In fact, He has numbered every hair on our head. You can rest assured: He has numbered every dollar or euro you own, right down to the last cent. He knows exactly how much you need for tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and for the next 10 years! God knows everything and takes care of everything.

Cast all your care on Him: A relationship with the Almighty God

So why do we worry? Jesus says: “If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?” Luke 12:26. God is able to do everything, but we aren’t even able to do the least. In light of this truth, we should, quite logically, start being obedient to this verse: “… casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.

But to do this, we must have a personal relationship with Him. Only His disciples have this kind of relationship, those who have been born again to a living hope. If you are without God and without hope here on earth, it isn’t so easy to simply cast all your care on Him. Instead, you become worried, and with good reason.

By faith in God’s Word, entire mountains of anxiety can be toppled and cast into the depths of the sea. How much anxiety will be left when you receive a living hope in Romans 8:28? “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Then all clouds of anxiety disappear, and the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings. (Malachi 4:2) Anxiety makes us old before our time; it is the cause of stomach ulcers and heartburn. It leads to fatigue and unrest over laughable insignificant matters.

Cast all your care on Him: New, edifying thoughts

The exhortation rings out: “Be anxious for nothing.” Philippians 4:6. Usually people are anxious about virtually everything. It’s a corrosive disease, like a snake slithering around in your thoughts, strangling your life in God. Your thoughts tumble around in a dark labyrinth, and the same destructive thoughts come up, over and over again. But when you cast all your burdens on the Lord, heaven opens up.

In Revelation 4:1 it is written, “… behold, a door standing open in heaven.” And a voice said, “Come up here!” There it is bright with new thoughts – encouraging, thankful thoughts that have existed since before the foundation of the world was made. Now you have room for these thoughts to come down into your heart and mind and give you a clear vision. “Behold your God!” Isaiah 40:9.

When you see God, you realize how small you are and how insignificant and ridiculous your problems actually are. Before you cast all your care on Him, worrying and anxiety ate up your energy and initiative, but now a new energy fills you with a desire to get up and serve. You find you are no longer driven and plagued by your own thoughts. The yoke of anxiety has been broken in your own life, so that you can also help set others free and bring comfort to suffering souls. Then your light will dawn in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday. (Isaiah 58:10)

A good exhortation is included in the same verse: “… extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul.”  This is a powerful blow against worrying. God notices these things and will reward you accordingly.

Cast all your care on Him: God can do the impossible

So let us exercise ourselves in godly fear – exercise ourselves in casting all our care and anxiety on Him. This is, without a doubt, one of the most profitable “spiritual sports” you can practice.

If God is so merciful that He casts all our sins into the depths of the sea, we should take advantage of this incredible offer: Cast all your care upon Him! (1 Peter 5:7) God can accomplish things that, for us, are impossible. (Matthew 19:26)
