I long for my heavenly dwelling

SONG: When we seek the things which are above then we find that God places a longing for heaven in our hearts.

Paul writes in Colossians 3:1-3: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

This Christian song is about someone who has this vision. Someone who sees that what is truly valuable is to look past the passing pleasures of this world and to seek God, because that is what has eternal value. To live in obedience to Him so that He can fill them with His knowledge and wisdom. To live in such a way that they are prepared for eternity.

Lyrics: I long for my heavenly dwelling

I long for my heavenly dwelling,
Where, Lord, I’ll behold Thee one day.
My longing is deep and compelling;
More fully Thy laws I’d obey.

A yearning, intense and unceasing,
Is fervently burning in me,
Dear Master, to Thee to be pleasing;
O may Thy work deeper yet be.

I cannot slack off, but press onward;
The goal I see yet from afar.
O depths of God’s wisdom and knowledge!
By faith all things possible are.

My need is so urgent and pressing;
I’ll hasten – the end is so near.
Deceptive is all earthly glory.
O help me not cling to things here.
