Psalm 4

SONG: A psalm of David set to music, expressing the indefinable peace and joy of a close relationship with God.

This original song is from Brunstad Christian Church’s international Christmas concert 2020.

The message of Psalm 4

Psalm 4 was written by King David – a man who has been described as being “after the Lord’s own heart.” Here David expresses that, despite tribulation and persecution, his relationship with God fills him with an out-of-this-world peace and joy in his heart.

Olav: The lyrics of the song you’re about to hear are written by a man after God’s own heart. Psalm 4 has been set to music. A psalm wherein David gives expression to and testifies that, in spite of his tribulations and persecutions, his relationship with God gives him an out-of-this-world peace and joy in his heart.

“There are many who say,
‘Who will show us any good?’
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalm 4:6-8.

Lyrics, Psalm 4:

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness.
You’ve given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear, O Lord, hear my prayer!

O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?
But now the Lord has set apart the godly for Himself.

The Lord hears when I call to Him.
The Lord hears when I call Him!
Tremble, and do not sin.
Ponder in your hearts on your beds,
And be silent.

Offer right sacrifice and put your trust in the Lord.
Many there are who say, “Who’ll show us some good?”
Lift up your light of Your face upon us, O Lord.
You’ve put more joy in my heart
Than they have when their grain and wine abound.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep.
For You alone, for You, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

The Lord hears when I call to Him.
The Lord hears when I call Him!
Tremble, and do not sin.
Ponder in your hearts on your beds,
And be silent.
