This is the way to make rapid progress in your Christian life
Have you heard of the “now way?"
“I can pray later. I’m sure I will get around to reading my Bible at some point. Of course I want to serve God! But, can’t this just wait a little bit?” Have you heard any of these thoughts?
It’s easy to put things off. It’s human nature. But, just because it’s easy, doesn’t mean that it should go on this way! Having such a mindset restricts your growth and development in a life with Christ; it actually hinders God from being able to complete a work in you.
The “now” way
The Bible talks about a completely new mindset and way of doing things. It talks about doing things “now” – as in, “at once,” or “today!” We could call this the “now way.” In 2 Corinthians 6:2 it’s written, “…behold, now is the acceptable time, behold now is the day of salvation.” The usual answer one gets from people who have been invited and exhorted to be reconciled to God is that they want to do it later, but not now, not today, not tonight.
If you say that every time, it will never get done; but if you do it right away, then you are certain that it gets done. By being obedient to the faith, you can lay hold of eternal life in this tiny little present moment! This teaches us the value of time, the value of the present moment!
This is how it should be along the entire way – step by step. If we do God's will right away, we have the assurance that it is done. We don't know what we can do later; we don't even know if we will ever have the same opportunity again.
Like what you’re reading?
Act immediately!
When God shows you the next step, take it right away, and continue in this manner until the very end; then you are a wise person. You will experience consistent and rapid progress on the way of life, and you will be a shining example to everyone else!
Pray immediately, get up immediately, write immediately, open yourself immediately, pray for forgiveness immediately, ask immediately, do what you have been reminded to do immediately, submit to God immediately, start immediately to press into God with all your might, suggest praying together immediately, serve immediately with the gift you have, bring your matters into order immediately, this very day. Don't let the sun go down on your unrighteousness! Don't sleep tonight until it's done.
An anointed way of life
The “now” way is full of vitality, a blessedly rich way of life! Torrents of blessings pour down on this way! What an amazing, heavenly, anointed way, which leads to tremendous progress! Why not walk on it? What is your answer to this? If we see something that is God's will, why not do it right away? If we do, then the sooner we can take the next step, and so on, without end.
“‘Today, if you would hear His voice, do not harden your hearts’ … but exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any one of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:7-8, 13.
This applies to each level of development in Christ Jesus right to the very end. It applies to every single step and every single act.
All of us are to progress; all of us can do things better. So, what's important is when we see something, not to postpone it until another time, but to do it right away, to make a start on doing God's will. (Luke 12:47.)
